Letter. 7 July 1817. ALS.

Letter to John D'Wolf, merchant, from his brother in Lexington, KY, on his way home from Louisville, where he has been going into business with "Mr. Prentiss." D'Wolf says his distillery business in Louisville is doing very well. Discusses business that he hopes John has been taking care of for him, especially some banking and stock business with the U.S. Bank and Bank of Bristol.

In 1816, the Bank of the United States was rechartered, the first charter having expired in 1811, in an attempt to stabilize the national currency. Within the first three years, the bank was nearly ruined due to mismanagement. Langdon Cheves was elected president of its board of directors in 1819 and restored the bank's credit.
